The way people experience vehicles is rapidly evolving. As cars become increasingly connected, autonomous, and software-defined, expectations for the in-cabin experience are rising. Users now seek the same level of personalization, seamlessness, and intelligence they enjoy across their digital ecosystems, from smartphones to wearables to smart homes. As a result, the vehicle is poised to become more than a mode of transportation: it is transforming into a personal digital space. This shift is transforming in-car infotainment, with audio and voice technology playing a central role.
Crucially, all of this must occur without compromising comfort or disturbing others. Personalization and privacy are emerging as foundational pillars of the next-generation cabin. Technologies such as active road-noise cancellation, in-car communication, headrest speakers, etc., are enabling vehicles to intelligently adapt to their occupants, delivering tailored and private experiences that coexist harmoniously within the same shared space.
BdSound is the Italian company that, earlier on, supplied the first-ever Amazon Alexa and Apple CarPlay implementations in the noisy environment of super sports cars from Ferrari and Lamborghini, placing it firmly in the radar in the automotive market.
Our guest, Fabio Cagnetti, co-founder of BdSound and the company's Chief Operating Officer, will explain how they have created solutions where every seat in a vehicle functions as an independent environment, a fully personalized multimedia zone tailored to the individual. And he will share his experience in implementing these systems in new vehicles, where each passenger can enjoy their own experience: streaming content, interacting with a personal digital assistant, taking part in a hands-free call, or even joining a videoconference while on the move.During this session, other topics to be discussed include BdSound's experience with voice for both communications and voice assistants in full-electric vehicles, a growing area of business for the company. Another interesting topic is the way software-defined vehicles (SDV) are impacting how OEMs, Tier-1, and Tier-2 are conceptualizing new features.
Fabio Cagnetti, born in Milan in 1975, is an optoelectronic engineer and a co-founder of BdSound. Passionate about acoustics and audio since his university years, he was an active member of the Italian section of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), where he created the first local student chapter and organized several local conferences. After graduating, he worked as a power-IC designer, developing audio amplifiers for automotive applications, at STMicroelectronics, before founding BdSound in 2009. Today at BdSound, he focuses mainly on strategy for new developments and on coordinating sales and marketing activities. Beyond engineering, Fabio is also a pianist and a stage actor.
